Situated in one of the most charming parts of Covent Garden and only a few minutes walk from Drury Lane, PJ’s Bar & Grill is the ideal location for business dining, getting together with family and friends, romantic assignations, pre and post theatre dinner and in short any excuse to have a thoroughly pleasant meal in a thoroughly pleasant restaurant.
PJ’s has the dark wood, mirrored, calm interior of a patrician American restaurant or club without being in any way formal. One is always assured of a cordial welcome and enthusiastic and informed service from the youthful staff who seem to come from every corner of the globe. This is no doubt one of the sources of the bonhomie which pervades this happy place.
The American influences on the menu are also offset by international undertones. Main courses such as grilled rib eye steak or PJ’s steak hamburger with coleslaw and home made fries are pure Americana but choice extends to other delights such as grilled sea bass with potato and spinach tart, roast shallots and white wine sauce; venison steak with green pepper sauce and sweet potato mash, and fillet of salmon with asparagus, artichoke and buerre blanc. Main courses cost a little over £10 each on average and starters about £6. These include Parma ham and charantais melon, and steamed mussels with white wine and garlic. There is a good selection of salads and the chef’s specials should always be part of one’s deliberations.
Brunch served 12pm-4:00pm is a lightsome diversion and very good value. The fayre includes Cumberland sausage and mash £7.95 and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon £7.45.
The wine list compliments the cuisine perfectly and offers an extremely reasonably priced house wine for £10.95, also available by the glass. Many other wines are well priced at about £15 with emphasis being on New World sources.
Everything works well at PJ’s. It is a very good restaurant and a lot of fun.
