A former power station, The Tate Modern, a member of the Tate group of galleries, now contains many international modern works of art.
The pieces inside the gallery range from 1900 to the present day. Some of the artists included are Dalí, Warhol, Picasso, Matisse and Hirst.
The Turbine Hall contains specially commissioned work by contemporary artists, sponsored by Unilever. A new piece is installed each year and is displayed between October and March. Recent works include Carsten Höller's Test Site (which took the form of slides from each level of the building) and Doris Salcedo's Shibboleth (which took the form of a crack in the floor).
